Great essay, but why can’t the geothermal companies just drill on non-federal lands, like in the East? Of course it would be great if things are made easier for them, which is why I like this essay, but the author hasn’t shown why staying off government-owned land is a major impediment to progress.
Companies could drill more easily on private land, but most of the currently accessible geothermal resources are in the West. The federal government owns tons and tons of land there.
